Omaha Poker Tips

Omaha is a very fun poker game to play on FullTiltPoker and personally I find it much more entertaining then playing Texas Holdem. The only difference in Omaha Poker from Texas Holdem is that in Omaha you get dealt four cards whereas in Holdem you get two cards dealt to you only. With four cards dealt to every player to start each hand you can imagine how fierce the betting can become. I’ve compiled a few tips that will keep you from losing your shirt at the Omaha tables.

* In Omaha poker you need to be careful about what hands you call big bets on. If you’re facing a big bet then you better make sure that you have one of the best possible hands. In Omaha it’s very common to see full houses so be careful chasing straights and flushes because you could end up losing the hand even if you make your hand.

* A lot of new players to FullTilltPoker will play a very wide variety of hands in Omaha Poker and you really want to avoid falling into doing this. Playing in a lot of hands generally results in slowly losing your bankroll until it’s gone because you call to the flop and then fold when you don’t hit your hand. If you’re playing Omaha Hi/Lo it’s especially important to watch your hand selection due to the fact there is a high and low hand that win the pot.

* Try to avoid raising preflop when you’re playing Omaha poker because you really don’t know what is coming on the flop and you don’t want to have much invested in the pot until you see some cards. Most players will call raises in this poker game anyways because it’s much looser then other poker games and if you don’t hit your hand then you’re lost in the hand. You can make your money once you’ve hit your hand as you should still get paid off and it’s much safer for your bankroll.

* When you hit two pairs in Omaha on FullTill you’ll usually end up getting trapped into losing a bunch of your chips. Two pairs in Omaha isn’t a very good hand at all and you should be very careful about playing them too strongly. A lot of hands can beat two pairs and when you’ve got nine cards available to make a five card hand chances are someone will have better then you.

* Although the action is generally loose at the Omaha tables you should try to stay out of the mix for the most part and keep a tight hand selection. Even with playing tight you can usually get paid off on your monster hands from a fish on the table that isn’t paying attention.

The biggest thing I can recommend is that you should pay attention to the poker cards that come out and figure out what hands can beat you when you’re playing in a hand. If a lot of hands can beat you and you got players betting into you then chances are you’ve lost. Two pairs look nice in most poker games, but in Omaha you don’t want to be all-in with two pairs because the percentages of hitting a boat aren’t the best.
